Online Applications | Good Student Credit Card Offers

Credit card applications can be found at www.goodstudentcreditcard.com where good students can compare the best student credit card offers currently available.  Diligent credit card use can lead to a lifetime of low-interest rate loan opportunities like auto loans, mortgages and other forms of consumer credit.  Credit card issuers recognize that students tend to have limited credit histories and lower reportable incomes.  Notwithstanding, good students enrolled in universities and colleges throughout the country are often given the opportunity to start building a credit record early.  This is an opportunity that should be highly valued, particularly in light of the enduring credit crisis which has made it difficult for many people with good credit records to receive any form of credit.  In fact, some existing credit limits have been decreased by issuers.

Student credit cards issued by Discover and Capital One are specifically designed for good students.  Some of the features offered by these credit card issuers include:

•           No Annual Fee

•           0% Interest for a fixed period of time

•           Cashback Bonuses

•           $0 Fraud Liability Guarantee

During this climate of economic instability, illiquidity in the credit markets, in the stock market, uncertainty in the stock market and the softening Real Estate market, one thing remains constant – good students should be given the opportunity to build a credit history.  Responsibility, however, is vital.  It is important for students to keep in mind that if they don’t have enough money to buy something now, you should consider saving up until you can.  Credit cards are most advantageous to students when then balance is paid in full every month.  They should be treated like cash in hand.  In these difficult economic times, where credit is proving to be more difficult to come by, it is important to establish a strong credit profile by obtaining credit early and maintaining a consistent payment history.  Student credit cards issued by Discover and Capital One are perfectly designed for student applicants.

The Skinny On Credit Cards

The Skinny On Credit Cards

$10.09

Credit cards, a big topic about such a small item (3.37 inches by 2.12 inches). The first thing to know about credit cards is that nobody stood up and asked the banks to invent them. In fact, when credit cards first appeared on a grand scale (1958), it was because the Bank of America put thousands of cards in the hands of one California city. America began to change on a mid-September day in 1958 when the Bank of America dropped its first 60,000 credit cards on the unassuming city of Fresno, California…. A mass mailing of cards: 'a drop'…. There had been no outward yearning among the residents of Fresno for such a device, nor even the dimmest awareness that such a thing was in the works. It simply arrived one day, with no advance warning, as if it had dropped from the sky. -Joe Nocera, A Piece of the Action (Simon & Schuster, 1994) In the past 50 years, the credit card has, of course, become an integral part of our society. Today there are about 700 million active credit cards – two for every man, woman and child in the United States. Total credit card debt is about 1 trillion, and it is estimated that U.S. households who use credit cards have an average debt of about 10,000. The Skinny On books examine and synthesize the leading research on an array of topics, determine the bottom-line, need-to-know information, and present helpful analysis in an engaging stick-figure illustrated narrative. Designed to be read in just one hour, readers can consume and comprehend their chosen subject quickly and effectively.

Debt for Sale: A Social History of the Credit Trap

Debt for Sale: A Social History of the Credit Trap

$12.89

Credit and debt appear to be natural, permanent facets of Americans’ lives, but a debt-based economy and debt-financed lifestyles are actually recent inventions. In 1951 Diners Club issued a plastic card that enabled patrons to pay for their meals at select New York City restaurants at the end of each month. Soon other "charge cards" (as they were then known) offered the convenience for travelers throughout the United States to pay for hotels, food, and entertainment on credit. In the 1970s the advent of computers and the deregulation of banking created an explosion in credit card use-and consumer debt. With gigantic national banks and computer systems that allowed variable interest rates, consumer screening, mass mailings, and methods to discipline slow payers with penalties and fees, middle-class Americans experienced a sea change in their lives. Given the enormous profits from issuing credit, banks and chain stores used aggressive marketing to reach Americans experiencing such crises as divorce or unemployment, to help them make ends meet or to persuade them that they could live beyond their means. After banks exhausted the profits from this group of people, they moved into the market for college credit cards and student loans and then into predatory lending (through check-cashing stores and pawnshops) to the poor. In 2003, Americans owed nearly $8 trillion in consumer debt, amounting to 130 percent of their average disposable income. The role of credit and debt in people’s lives is one of the most important social and economic issues of our age. Brett Williams provides a sobering and frank investigation of the credit industry and how it came to dominate the lives of most Americans by propelling the social changes that are enacted when an economy is based on debt. Williams argues that credit and debt act to obscure, reproduce, and exacerbate other inequalities. It is in the best interest of the banks, corporations, and their shareholders to keep consumer debt at high levels. By targeting low-income and young people who would not be eligible for credit in other businesses, these companies are able quickly to gain a stranglehold on the finances of millions. Throughout, Williams provides firsthand accounts of how Americans from all socioeconomic levels use credit. These vignettes complement the history and technical issues of the credit industry, including strategies people use to manage debt, how credit functions in their lives, how they understand their own indebtedness, and the sometimes tragic impact of massive debt on people’s lives.

Deal with Your Debt: The Right Way to Manage Your Bills and Pay Off What You Owe

Deal with Your Debt: The Right Way to Manage Your Bills and Pay Off What You Owe

$0.01

Most people carry debt for most of their adult lives. Yet, most books on debt focus mainly on how to pay it all off, and live forever without it. Too often, following that advice leads only to failure. People either give up, or pay off the wrong kinds of debt. They strand themselves with too little flexibility to survive a financial crisis — and land in bankruptcy court. They neglect saving for retirement, homes, or college, and end up poorer than they might have been. For most people, it’s more realistic — and smarter — to control and manage debt effectively, rather than eliminating it completely. Debt Smart shows how. Award-winning personal finance columnist Liz Weston explains the rules and explodes the myths surrounding debt. Discover the crucial role debt can play in a portfolio, identifying debts that actually contribute to wealth and flexibility, while avoiding or eliminating “toxic” debts. Weston presents effective strategies for evaluating, monitoring, and paying every form of debt, from credit cards and mortgages to student and auto loans. She offers practical guidelines for how much debt one should take on. Find realistic (and often surprising) guidance on everything from home equity loans and 401K borrowing to small business loans.
